Workshops

Obtaining employment in the field of diversional therapy and the gaining of a baseline educational level allows entry into the diversional therapy profession however it is a commitment to life long learning that will enable practitioners to remain viable in the future and to meet the many challenges that lie ahead.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Professional knowledge can have a very short lifespan and to keep current, professionals must remain informed through reading, participating in conferences and networking with peers.

Professionals who maintain a desire to stay abreast of current information have a greater likelihood of taking advantage of new information and technologies that make their professional life more meaningful, yet easier to accomplish.

Clients deserve to interact with professionals who are excellent, well informed, and on the cutting edge  (Peterson and Stumbo, 2000).

The Diversional Therapy Association of New South Wales Code of Ethics requires that all members:

-----
  • Have a commitment to ongoing professional development through practice, education, research and publishing.
  • Continually update and improve professional knowledge and skills applicable to diversional therapy.

The Association offers a full range of continuing education opportunities for both members and non-members.

A National Conference and Convention are held annually and a full workshop calendar is organised and offered throughout the year.

Members are welcome and encouraged to provide ideas for workshops that they are interested in attending and may also have some expert practitioners to suggest as guest speakers.

Topics that have been provided to date:

  • Fundamentals of Diversional Therapy
  • RCS and Documentation
  • Practical therapies for people with Dementia: Art therapy, Music Therapy, Dance Therapy and Pet therapy
  • Time management, team building and conflict resolution
  • Leisure Education and Client Assessment

Workshops are advertised in our members' newsletter.
